TikTok Transcript with Claude: Summarize and Analyze
Claude can't open TikTok links or read video files, but it is excellent with transcripts. The free workflow, Claude's file limits, and prompts that work.

Claude cannot watch a TikTok. It does not play video or listen to audio, and a pasted TikTok link gives it nothing but the text around the video. Ask it to summarize one anyway and the best case is a polite refusal.
What Claude does exceptionally well is read. Give it the transcript and it becomes one of the best tools available for picking apart what a TikTok actually says. Here is the free workflow, Claude's real file limits, and prompts that play to its strengths.
Why Claude needs the transcript
Claude works with text and images, not audio or video. Anthropic's help centre lists the upload types claude.ai supports: documents such as PDF, DOCX, CSV, TXT, HTML, RTF, EPUB, JSON and XLSX, and images in JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP. There is no video or audio format on the list.
So there are only two ways a TikTok's content can reach Claude: as pasted text, or as a text file. Both start with the transcript.
A link is not a substitute. A TikTok page carries a caption, hashtags and a username. The words spoken in the video are only in the audio track. If a model tries to summarize from the page, it is summarizing the caption, which often says something quite different from the video.
The free workflow
Step 1: Copy the TikTok link. Share, then Copy link. The video must be public; private and friends-only videos cannot be transcribed by any tool.
Step 2: Get the transcript. Paste the link into TranscribeTok and click Get Transcript. It transcribes the audio itself, so it works even if the creator never enabled TikTok's captions. Two free a day, no account.
Step 3: Give it to Claude. For one video, paste the text straight into the chat. For several, save each transcript as a .txt file named after the video and upload them together. File names become labels Claude can refer to.
Step 4: Ask one precise question. Tell Claude what the video is and what you want back. "Summarize this" works. "List every factual claim in this TikTok and mark which ones need a source" works much better.
Claude's limits for TikTok work
| Claude (claude.ai) | |
|---|---|
| Open a TikTok link and hear it | No |
| Upload a video or audio file | No — not a supported type |
| Upload a .txt transcript | Yes |
| Files per chat | Up to 20 |
| Size per file (chat) | Up to 500 MB |
| Files in a Project | Unlimited, within the context window |
A TikTok transcript is usually a few hundred words, so file size never matters here. The real ceiling is Claude's context window, which comfortably holds dozens of short transcripts in one conversation.
Prompts that play to Claude's strengths
Claude is at its best on careful reading: structure, argument, tone and consistency. These prompts lean into that.
Separate claims from opinion
Here is the transcript of a TikTok about [topic]. List every factual claim the speaker makes. For each, say whether it is a checkable fact, an opinion or a prediction, and flag any that would need a source before I quote it.
Map the script's structure
Break this TikTok transcript into its parts: hook, setup, main point, proof, call to action. Quote the exact sentence that does each job. Then tell me which part is weakest and why.
Find contradictions across creators
I've uploaded transcripts of five TikToks on the same topic. Where do the creators disagree? Quote the conflicting lines and name the files they come from.
Rewrite in a specific voice
Rewrite this TikTok script as a 150-word LinkedIn post in plain, first-person language. Keep every specific number and example. Don't add anything the speaker didn't say.
That last instruction matters. Without it, any model will pad a rewrite with plausible extras.
Use a Project for a TikTok swipe file
If you study TikToks regularly — competitors, a niche, a trend — put the transcripts in a Claude Project. Project files are available across every conversation in that project, so you can ask new questions about last month's videos without uploading them again.
A simple structure that works: one Project per topic, one .txt file per video, named creator-date-topic.txt. Then ask questions across the whole set: "Which hooks appear more than once?" or "What does every video in this folder leave out?" If you would rather keep that archive outside an AI tool, our TikTok transcript to Notion guide covers the same idea in a notes app.
Getting better answers
Correct the transcript first. If a name or product came through wrong, fix it before uploading. Claude reasons carefully, including about a misheard word.
Don't ask about visuals. The transcript is audio only. Claude cannot know what was on screen and should not be asked.
Name the language. For non-English TikToks, say which language you want the answer in. The TikTok transcript by language hub covers what changes per language, including the Japanese and Arabic guides.

Frequently asked questions
Can Claude watch a TikTok video? No. Claude cannot play video or listen to audio, and claude.ai's supported upload types are documents such as PDF, DOCX, TXT and CSV plus images, with no video or audio formats. To use a TikTok with Claude, get the transcript as text first and paste or upload that.
Can I paste a TikTok link into Claude? You can, but Claude cannot hear the video from a link. At most it can read text published on the page, such as the caption and hashtags, which is not what was said. The spoken content is only in the audio, so a transcript is the reliable input.
How many TikTok transcripts can I give Claude at once? Claude accepts up to 20 files per chat, at up to 500 MB each, and a typical TikTok transcript is a few hundred words. The practical limit is Claude's context window rather than file count, so dozens of short TikTok transcripts fit comfortably in one conversation.
What is Claude best at with TikTok transcripts? Careful analysis of what was said: separating claims from opinions, spotting contradictions between videos, checking whether a script's argument holds together, and rewriting in a specific voice. Clear, labelled transcripts and a precise instruction get the best results.
Is it free to use Claude with TikTok transcripts? Yes for occasional use. Claude has a free plan that accepts pasted text and file uploads, and TranscribeTok gives two free TikTok transcripts per day with no account. Heavy use may hit the free plan's usage limits.
