How to Get a TikTok Transcript (3 Free Ways)

There are three realistic ways to get the text out of a TikTok video, and they differ by about two orders of magnitude in effort. Here they are, fastest first, with an honest note on when each one makes sense.

Method 1: Paste the link into a transcript tool (about 10 seconds)

The fastest option by a wide margin.

Step 1: Open the TikTok and tap the Share arrow on the right, then Copy link. On desktop, copy the URL from the address bar.

Step 2: Go to TranscribeTok. No app, no extension, no account for your first two a day.

This is genuinely useful for watching in a noisy room. It is close to useless for getting a transcript, because there is no copy-all, no export, and no way to select the text. It is drawn onto the video surface.

If your goal is to read along, this works and costs nothing. If your goal is text you can paste somewhere, it does not.

Method 3: Transcribe it yourself (free, slow)

Play, pause, type, rewind. For a 60-second video, expect five to ten minutes if you are a fast typist and the audio is clear.

There is exactly one situation where this is the right call: a very short clip with genuinely awful audio, where an automatic tool would produce something you would have to rewrite anyway. Otherwise the time cost is hard to justify.

A middle path if you are technical: download the video and run OpenAI's Whisper locally. It is free and accurate, but budget 10–30 minutes for setup and expect to be comfortable with a command line. Sensible for hundreds of videos on your own hardware, overkill for three.
