Facebook Reels Transcript: How to Get One in 2026

Facebook will caption a reel for you. It will not hand you the words. There is no transcript panel, no copy button and no export option for viewers, which means every route to a Facebook Reels transcript runs through a third-party tool.

Stated plainly at the top: TranscribeTok is a TikTok tool and does not transcribe Facebook videos. The recommendations below are for other people's products, checked on their own pages in September 2026.

Every Facebook video is a Reel now

A Facebook Reels transcript and a Facebook video transcript are now the same thing. In June 2025 Meta announced that all videos shared to Facebook would be published as Reels, removed the 90-second cap Reels previously had, and renamed the Video tab to the Reels tab, rolling the change out gradually to profiles and Pages.

That changes what you are transcribing. Reels used to be short by definition. Now a "reel" can be a 40-second clip or a 50-minute Page upload, and a tool priced per minute will charge very differently for the two. Check the length of what you are pasting before you pick a paid option.

What Facebook gives you, and what it withholds

Facebook generates automatic captions using speech recognition, and viewers can make them show by default under Settings, then Media, then "Always show captions". Creators can switch auto-captions on when publishing.

None of that gives a viewer the text. Captions render as an overlay during playback: not selectable, not copyable, not downloadable. There is no Facebook equivalent of YouTube's transcript panel, which is the same position TikTok and Instagram take. 1. A free web tool that supports Facebook

The fastest route for one-off use: paste the public link, get text back.

3. Download the file and transcribe it yourself

If the video is yours, or you have it as a file, skip the URL entirely. Use your original upload, or the open-source downloader yt-dlp, which supports Facebook links, then run the file through any transcription tool or a local Whisper model. This is the only method that works on a video you cannot reach by public link — and the only one where nothing leaves your machine.

What none of these can do

Private and friends-only video. Every URL-based tool fetches publicly. Friends-only posts, private groups and login-gated video are inaccessible everywhere. GetTranscribe says so explicitly; the others behave the same way.

On-screen text. Burned-in captions, stickers and text overlays are pixels, not data. No transcript tool reads them, on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok.

Perfect accuracy. Clear speech transcribes well. Music beds, crosstalk, fast delivery and slang all degrade it, and reels are often music-heavy. Read proper nouns before quoting.
