Those are genuinely different products that happen to share a first step.

If you want the words from one video right now, an account is friction you shouldn't have to accept.

We transcribe the audio track. TokScript's own FAQ states that if a video has no talking or the creator has disabled auto-transcribe on the platform, it cannot return a transcript. That reads like it depends on the platform's caption data. TranscribeTok reads the audio itself, so it returns a transcript whether or not the creator ever enabled captions. On most videos this makes no difference. On the ones where captions were switched off, it is the difference between text and nothing.

If your usage is bursty, which for most people it is, paying once and drawing down over a year beats a monthly fee you forget to cancel. The honest recommendation

Use TokScript if: you transcribe more than a handful of videos a week, your work spans Reels or Shorts, you want everything in one searchable cloud library, you need JSON or CSV, or you want the AI analysis built in rather than assembled yourself. What neither of them does

Two limits apply to both tools and to every competitor in this category:

• Public videos only. Private accounts, friends-only posts and deleted videos are inaccessible to any transcription tool. No exceptions, no workarounds.
• On-screen text is not captured. Text overlays a creator types onto the video are rendered graphics, not data. Transcription reads audio, so anything communicated only as on-screen text is lost. If the video's substance lives in the captions rather than the voiceover, no tool here will help.

Accuracy on clear speech sits in the mid-to-high 90s for both. Loud music, sped-up delivery, heavy slang and mid-sentence code-switching degrade it, and they degrade it for everyone roughly equally.
